The Body Shop's "Brush with Fashion" Blogger Event
I had such a blast at The Body Shop’s launch of their new eco-friendly line, “Brush with Fashion,” which they collaborated with the London College of Fashion. The limited-edition line comes with built-in brushes and is made from the finest Community Fair Trade ingredients, such as marula oil. The oil is known for hydrating the skin without causing breakouts. It is derived from the Owumbo women of Namibia and because of the trading with The Body Shop, it has allowed over five-thousand women to build their own factory. Along with being fair trade, the line is designed to be fashionable (hence the name), which is why The Body Shop collaborated with the London College of Fashion. They chose the artwork from 21 year-old fashion illustration undergrad- Katarina Voloder because her sketch of the eye and brush gave the packaging a very fashion-forward feel.
That evening, along with viewing the line and new products (at the Beverly Center store), I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have my make-up done by celebrity make-up artist- Shalini Vadhera. Before speaking with her, my face received some preliminary pampering by MUA Roxie; who cleansed my face with The Body Shop’s famous Tea Tree products and putting on foundation and the Spring 2011 eye shadows from the new line. I was then whisked over get my make-over by Shalini. She has an intense passion for beauty and making women feel empowered and motivated. This passion stems from her Indian background and traveling around the world, in search of the best beauty secrets. She has since come out with her book, Passport to Beauty, which goes through her favorite beauty regimens from all over the world; such as Brazilian women chomp on beetroot to enhance their tan, whereas Indian women massage hot coconut oil into their hair to make it stronger, thicker and shinier, or the fact that Chilean women mash up fresh grapes and add two tablespoons of flour to make a paste that will revive their skin and make it ten years younger. That evening, she was serving as The Body Shop’s spokeswoman, explaining that this Spring’s trend is the ‘no make-up make-up look;’ as well as smokey eyes, but with a lot of color, pink cheeks and bold lips. But she suggests to not put it all together, instead, pick your best feature and make it pop. She also highlighted her favorite picks from the line: the ‘Illuminating Face Base’- apricot in color, which reflects light and evens out skin and helps cover up flaws. It can also be used to replace make-up. The next item is the ‘Tailored Cheek Pen’, which comes out clear and works with your PH level, creating the perfect cheek color. Her last choice is the ‘Big and Curvy Waterproof Mascara’- creating the perfect lashes.

Hi Heather! Many years ago I read the book of Anita Roddick’s story, and how she built the Body Shop empire with a conscious. I will have to stop by a store again and check out the new line. Hope you’re having a great week so far!
