In celebration of their recent launch at Costco last month, the kind folks at Matty M sent over a pair of leggings that are now available at the wholesale retailer. The durable and affordable leggings are made in the USA. I chose to take them on our adventure to Marfa, where I paired them with a vintage ethnic top and a vintage silver ethnic necklace. I also added a vintage gold sequin jacket and vintage evening heels for a more “twilight bohemia” look. The leggings fit like a second skin, while also creating a slimming waistline. Not all leggings are made this well, nor are you able to comfortably dress them up or down. Affordable, name-brand, good quality basics that are available at Costco?! Sign me up!

"The World is Filled with Copycats. But Very Few Originals"

(Repurposed Jacket- Born Again Vintage, Vintage Shorts- Big Bertha’s Paradise, Vintage Necklace- bought in Round Top, Sunglasses- ZeroUV, Jelly Platform Shoes- bought at a vendor in Santee Alley (LA).)

My good friend Bridgett Artise- the brains behind Born Again Vintage– lent me this awesome re-constructed jean jacket with gigantic billowy sleeves. So, for Mr. LAFashionsnob and I’s side trip to Terlingua Ghost Town, I paired the jacket with vintage leather shorts, black jelly platform shoes and used a vintage full slip as a top. The highlight of the jacket is the back, which Bridgett used part of a thrifted tee, mainly for its quote, which reads: “The World is Filled with Copycats. But Very Few Originals,” – The Diamond Guy. Whoever this ‘Diamond Guy’ was, he knew what’s up.

"Catwalks & Classrooms" Inaugural Event Hosted by Magpies & Peacocks

Houston’s only non-profit design house- Magpies & Peacocks, recently launched their inaugural Catwalks & Classrooms student design competition and showcase event. The event took place at JW Marriott in Downtown Houston. Twenty-five students, ranging from junior and college divisions from Art Institute of Houston to The Glassell School of Art and Fashion Camp; participated in the event. Each designer was given a material parcel, containing anything from funky 1980s prom dresses to a vintage Victor Costa for Neiman Marcus garment. They were then instructed to deconstruct and create a new contemporary collection, which was showcased at the culminating event.

The designers were placed with some of Houston’s most notable stylists, including: Dawn Bell (Fashion Camp/Houston Vintage), Lisa Power (StylePoint), Shelly Bishop (Curated Cotton) and Aubrie Layne (Lucky Cat Beauty) as the beauty director. Each vignette also had artwork by various local artists.

Magpies & Peacocks also selected a handful of judges who are prominent in the fashion, retail and design industries throughout the region.
