My friend Sofia recently held a workshop for “Re-Booting Your Instagram” for an intimate group of local bloggers and small businesses. Sofia is an amazing photographer and her Instagram and marketing skills are in my opinion, top notch. The workshop took place over a span of almost two hours and included a powerpoint presentation and a Q&A session.

Here are some highlights of what I learned:

** Your profile bio should be clear and concise.

** Your URL should link to your blog, business site or event you are promoting.

** Be true to your Instagram voice…

** Create image editing recipe and use it to keep seamless feel throughout the feed…

** Cooler images have better response than warmer images…

** ID safe content:

** Post everyday at least once a day…

** Always follow those who support you…

** Follow list should be lower than followers list…

** Always be inviting in your caption/call-to-action…

** Follow trends (#TBT, #MotivationMonday, etc)…

** Giveaways aren’t always the best growth strategy…

** Post things your followers can relate and connect to…

Lastly…

** Don’t be afraid to tell your story…

I was recently introduced to LulaRoe when I received a pair of leggings and a dress that I had won in a giveaway.

LulaRoe was launched about three years ago by DeAnne and Mark Stidham. The name “LulaRoe” was inspired by DeAnne’s granddaughers- Lucy, Lola and Monroe. The brand started out by only making 1,000 units of any print; but now that they are growing, the number has risen to 2,500, thus making the designs more unique. For more information and to look into becoming a consultant, check out LulaRoe.com or join a Consultant VIP Facebook Group, where you can participate in online pop-up shops.

I took my LulaRoe dress out for a morning at Green Street. Since it was somewhat chilly, I added my vintage jacket and paired them with my vintage Lauren Ralph Lauren concha belt. My vintage booties added for a laid-back boho vibe.

My friend Sofia and I ventured over to the posh West Ave River Oaks shopping center to have brunch at Pondicheri– Houston’s uber-cool Indian restaurant, that is also known for their delectable and colorful Instagram account.

Since it was a nice, almost-spring-like day, I opted for my flowy palazzo pants that I found at my friend Kime’s shop in Yucca Valley, and paired it with one of my 1990’s California souvenir t-shirts. I topped off the outfit with faux turquoise baubles, my vintage, thrifted, woven sandals; my new-to-me vintage 1980’s Christian Dior sunglasses and my vintage Coach handbag.
