Unique Los Angeles/Urban Outfitters Mini-Market

It was an exceptionally beautiful, yet hot day in Hollywood when Sonja Rasula had her first Unique Los Angeles + Urban Outfitters Mini-Market held on the Space 15 Twenty parking lot; which was also sharing the space with the Hollywood Farmers Market.
The event showcased 60 local designers, including some familiar ones from the Unique Los Angeles Shows. My friend, Liz Abbott of Leatherette Heart was showing her line, including her famous MJ Mugshot tees…Liz was wearing the logo on a dress….I’m hoping she will start manufacturing the MJ dresses soon, because I want to snatch one up. Leatheretteheart is on Etsy.com and facebook!
Julia LoVan was also there, selling her dresses, tees and totes. She had recently showed her collection at Project Ethos: Lift Off…(unfortunately, I was out of town for the event) and had an album with the dresses, which are one-of-a-kind and made from recycled clothing. You can contact her at: julialovandresses@gmail.com or shop her wares at Etsy.com.
Julia introduced me to the designers of the jewelry line, Avery Jasper, Aurelie Davis and Jill Green. They offered jewelry made from bullet casings and one necklace I was particularly fond of is the Key Necklace… A long necklace with a vintage key at the end….this should be staple to very Angelena’s wardrobe. My other favs were the necklaces with the religious pendents. Check them out at www.averyjasper.com.
The other familiar brands that were there: Rojas, SeaPony, myfriendroze, Elisa Gonsalves, Voz Clothing & Art and others. The above brands contact information can be found at the previous Unique Los Angeles posts.

Ford Fiesta Fashion Shows & Photo Shoots

The Ford Fiesta Agents: Parris Harris and YogaArmy designers, Sebastian St. George and Sandy Wee took the month of July by storm during their Mission 3. There were four red carpets, three runways and a plethora of photo shoots. They collaborated together to create ten major events held at major Hollywood venues: Greendoor, Kress, Ivar, Avalon, Lucky Strike Lanes, Aqua Lounge and a two-day event in downtown at the Standford Mart. Designers that participated in the events were: YogaArmy, Kami Shade, Parris Harris, David Kahn Jeans, Rock Revival and yours truly, LA Snob. The Ford Fiesta Team also collaborated with Brandy Sanders of Kierrah Foundation that helps young women who have been in the foster care system but due to their age, were taken out; to be able to find work and housing. For more information: please visit www.kierrahfoundation.org. For more information on the brands, check out: www.yogaarmy.com.

Note: Sebastian St. George and Vincent Villicano won two Telly Awards for a Bud commercial.

Project Ethos X

It was another successful event for the Project Ethos team on August 21st. They once again brought the show back to the Avalon, where it was held on September 2008 when I participated in the show as a featured artist.
Project Ethos X was presented by Global Wellness and featured a performance by Far East Movement (www.fareastmovement.com). The show featured eight visual artists. One unique artist, PingPing, showcased her ‘girlie’ paintings and had a small table of hand-painted trucker hats. She not only sells fun drawings and paintings that sorta of reminds me of graffiti artist, Fafi; but she also does custom drawings, which starts at $200. The paintings run for $500, depending on size. For more information, go to www.pingpingart.com. Two other artists that caught my eye were comic-book illustrator and script writer, Michael Buntyn and Keith Alvarez, who made a sculptor with a pair of his jeans with and filled it with bottles and the words, “Melt in your dreams” painted in red, above it.
There were a few designers that stood out during the fashion show. The one, by far, was D. Len by Dane Lenon. The collection reminded me of a fairytale, with the models flirting with the male models (that were just there as the eye candy) The gowns were avant-garde yet fit for a princess. Due to the quality of the fabrics, ranging from silk shantung, silk chiffon, herringbone to vintage; the price of the garments start at $200. Go to DLENBYDANELENON.COM.
Brittne, another designer of the evening, had a collection that ranged from mens swimwear to womens swimwear (one of my favs was a black bandeau top with peacock feathers and black bottoms and a black sarong with floral trim) to evening wear. I thought the tutu dress and dress with the dramatic bubble skirt added flair to the collection. To contact Brittne Banks, her email is: banksbrittne@yahoo.com.
Into the Woods, an eco-friendly company, showcased clothing made from recycled materials. The prints on the shirts depicted bears, deer and nature in general. There were dresses made from recycled sweaters that were paired with muffs made from the sweater sleeves. The line also features leggings and accessories, one in particular, being a braided hemp headband with glass leaves. To check out this “Green” company, go to www.intothewoods.com.
Lastly, the next hot t-shirt company to watch is Scandalous Social Club, a high-end collection of tees and hoodies that is based in Los Angeles. The designs are inspired by the glamour of Beverly Hills with the culture of the urban streets. They sure know how to make a runway presentation fun…by having the models throw beach balls bearing the SSC logo and squirting water from toy guns into the audience. Special Thanks: My dear friend, Houstina Summers of Cowgirl Heaven, for lending me one of her beautiful dresses to wear to PE; my hair/make-up team: Sophie and Lizzy, the Project Ethos Team of course!; Swirls Cupcakes, 944 Magazine, Felix Salzman of LookbookLA.com, 99% Entertainment and the rest of the sponsors.
