My Phone Pouch- The Perfect Hands Free and On the Go Phone Accessory

I do food delivery, where I’m constantly using my phone. I don’t carry a regular handbag for personal safety concerns, so I either use a fanny pack or My Phone Pouch. I specifically used the handy pouch while I was delivering for a local chain restaurant. It conveniently held my phone, license, a couple credit cards, sunglasses, and my car keys. Mind you, it was a tad bulky, but at least I didn’t have to worry about leaving my purse in the manager’s office or somewhere where it’s likely to be stolen or something.

Georgia-based Allison Santini- a busy wife, mother, pet owner, and now, business owner, is constantly on-the-go. She often found herself setting her phone down, often missing calls, or forgetting where she put it. Plus, a lot of her outfits didn’t have pockets, so she was either stuffing it in her shirt or bra, or left the phone behind. She also found that the “phone holsters” that were currently in stores are geared more towards men. Allison goes on to explain (via her press release), “[the other store holsters] are clunky, rigid and often require the user to affix it onto a belt or involve some sort of strap around your waist or across your body. (There are even some odd contraptions for men with straps like a harness around the back.) Women don’t wear belts as often (particularly at home) and clunky, rigid or odd holsters just don’t cut it. My design was originally targeted towards women and girls because far too often our garments don’t have pockets but many men are finding it to be a great solution too. Moreover, it’s superior to pockets because no more taking your phone out of your pocket every time you sit down and no more risk of accidentally sitting on and breaking your phone.”

She became so frustrated, that that led her to create the pouch. Since she is an avid sewer, who loved working with stretchy, snug-fitting clothing, she decided to cut up some leggings and developed a few prototypes. She officially launched her brand in 2017. “I use MyPhonePouch every day and I swear by it. I don’t carry my phone around without it. This simple, clever accessory is incredibly useful and can honestly improve the quality of your daily life. It allows you to keep your phone readily accessible to dramatically reduce the wasted time and stress of looking for your phone.  You can be more efficient in your daily chores or your work because you know where your phone is, on your hip – not in your hand, not buried in your purse and not left behind,” she said (via the press release).

The pouches are made in the U.S.A…in Atlanta, to be exact. They come in a variety of colors and sizes. The brand also believes in an eco-conscious business model, which you can read more about HERE.

I got my pouch in black and a large size, so I can carry my iPhone 8 Plus. I only thing that is inconvenient is that I’m unable to use my cactus phone case. I either need to get a regular, no-frills case, or just bare-bones it. It has two sides, both sides having three pockets each. One side is weighted down, so it can easily stay put on the waist when I wear skirts, leggings, or anything without a pocket. I also like to use it even when I have a pocket, because sometimes, pockets are too loose, which allows phones to easily slip out. The weight is loose, so you can place it in any of the pockets (and make sure to take it out before washing). Overall, I feel that it’s a very useful product. I love that it was made in the U.S.A. by a woman who cares to keep her business eco-friendly, and who’s product’s target market are women (although I’m sure men can find it useful, too).

If you too, are in the delivery business (or any business for that matter), this pouch is so helpful. I highly suggest checking the website for further details. Be sure to also follow the brand on Facebook and Instagram.

Flea Style Celebrates Store Opening in Dallas’ Deep Ellum

The first weekend of June started off with a celebration- the gurus at Flea Style opened their brick n’ mortar headquarters in Dallas’ trendy Deep Ellum neighborhood. The team chose a beautiful historical brick building that featured over 3,000 square feet of retail space, plus 1,000 square feet of flex studio space, where they will host a myriad of workshops and parties. The shop houses around 54 local vendors as well, including: Vida Antigua, Krisen Home, D Heart D, Shell & Pine, Whiski Designs, Urban Fibers, Mod and Jo, Cheeni Clothing and much more!

I drove the three hours from Austin to Dallas for their Grand Opening. The shop was everything I could have imagined, and more! It’s such a huge space, and the girls utilized every inch of that space perfectly. The decor and merchandise included a mix of handmade, upcycled, vintage, and bohemian. Seashells, macrame, rattan, cactus, and ethnic prints dotted the retailscape. A collage of mirrors hung on the wall behind the cash wrap, while another collage of vintage wheels hung in the front window. Also placed throughout the retail area are small biographies of each of the vendors, which I think is a great touch. I don’t know about you guys, but I always like to learn about the maker of my clothing, jewelry, or home goods (if applicable). I also got a peek at their studio space, which was also where calligrapher- Viv Jordan was customizing Flea Style mugs for guests, and Hive Coffee had a mini coffee station set up. I ended up leaving with the coolest vintage hand-painted belt (last photo on this post). I had such a great time, and am excited for Brittany and her wonderful team. Whenever I’m in Dallas, this will definitely be one of my stops.

Community and Great Eats at Red Oak Cafe

“Our God is Awesome!”

“I love these pancakes!”

“You’ve got this…God’s got you!” (Philippians 4:13)

“Be the reason someone smiles!”

These are just few of the hundreds of notes written on sticky notes that are decorated all over the walls inside the ladies restroom at Red Oak Cafe in League City. This…along with the exceptional food and service are what prompted me to tell you guys about this lovely family-owned restaurant.

Kim Oravetz is a longtime resident of Friendswood, and mother of four boys, and three grandchildren. It was about ten years ago when her eldest son- Justin, passed away in a car accident. She began searching for a way to honor his memory, and opening a restaurant sounded like a good idea. “Being a mom, he was probably my biggest eater. So I felt like I knew how to feed people, along with large groups of people, because with four boys, you’re always feeding.” She opened up a tea room in Friendswood. When that closed, she still wanted to open up another restaurant. She found the current location at the border of Friendswood and League City, and thought that it was perfect. She felt that the area needed something like it- a place where the community could gather.

When Justin passed, they planted a red oak tree in their backyard because they felt like it represented the strength that he had. So naming the new restaurant was practically a no-brainer… “Red Oak Cafe” just fit. They officially opened September 2015. The cafe has a Christian-inspired environment, which is full of love, inspiration, family…and amazingly great food. Kim feels that due to her hard work and obedience to God, the restaurant has been incredibly blessed.

All her menu items are either something she’s created herself, or family recipes. The granola was her grandmother’s recipe.. She wrote it for Kim on the back of an old bank envelope, and she still has and cherishes that envelope. “She sat with me probably 30 years ago and we would make chicken salad. So that was just totally inspired by who she was and what she helped me learn in the kitchen. My grandmothers were both of my inspirations for learning how to cook. I became a young bride and had to learn very quickly on how to feed my family.”

The story behind the famous sticky note-covered restroom walls is this… It was about two years ago when Vanessa, a server who has been with the restaurant since day one, brought up the idea of putting sticky notes in the bathroom and seeing what would come from it. So they placed a pad of sticky notes and a pen in the ladies room and it exploded. Every square inch of the room is literally covered with prayers, words of wisdom, shout-outs, praises, and more! The mens room also participates, but is not as covered. When I first saw the walls, I was just in total awe. There are times when I loose faith in humanity, especially after watching the news, as well as just in passing when I’m out-and-about. But these walls help restore some faith that people still feel, connect, and love.

Let’s chat about some of their menu items… One of the things they are known for is their coffee. They not only brew Katz Coffee, but also have their signature Texas Hill Country Pecan Blend, which is 85% of what they sell.  As for breakfast- they are known for the pancakes. “It’s not a buttermilk pancake. It’s sweeter and denser.” I did get to enjoy the pancakes recently, and they are some of the best I’ve had. They were comforting, and didn’t leave me with a ‘ugh, too full’ feeling. What’s also great is that they offer a menu of mix-ins for the pancakes. You can pretty much get anything you want, but the kitchen sink. Speaking of ‘kitchen sink,’ they offer the Kitchen Sink Quesadilla, which is filled with veggies, eggs, black beans, salsa, cheese, etc. For lunch, the Chicken Salad and Club Sandwiches are popular. The paninis are also recommended, especially the Grilled Cheese, which was inspired by her grandmother. They add in apple slices and bacon (“Because everything is better with bacon, I believe.” -Kim). “One of my favorite snacks as a kid growing up, from my grandmother, was apples and cheese, so we threw that into a panini,” Kim explained. Other must-haves on the menu are the Palo Pinto Power Bowl, Jambalaya, and Chicken Pot Pie. I personally LOVE the Prickly Pear Veggie Sandwich with a side of Chipotle Ranch dressing and a cup of Tomato Soup. Be sure to also try the seasoned saltine crackers!

“Our culture is what is so important to us…The servers have that culture as well. Our families, the love, the customer service..just that we provide the southern hospitality…You’re going to get good food when you come, but you’re also going to get loved on, and we really think that that’s the most important part.”
