Fashion Week Featuring Cowgirl Heaven and Holly Waas

My friend, Houstina Summers held a fashion show at the AGENDA Loft during LA Fashion Week, along with Holly Waas. The lovely model and actress- Emma Zerner hosted the event. I was fortunate enough to own a couple CGH dresses and wore the mini light pink halter to the affair. First up was Indie designer Holly Waas, who showcased her line of fun tops, skirts and dresses. There was a short intermission and then the Cowgirl Heaven show started. Houstina’s collection, themed “Winter Love, Romance” had me saying “ooo and ahhh” as each model walked the runway. The collection has since continued to blossom since the first time I saw it a couple years back. It went from short halter dresses to strapless, spaghetti straps, jackets, tops and now- shoes! The shoe collection was fierce, with heels snazzed up with large pink jewels, flowers, spikes, feathers and pearls. According to Houstina, “I wanted to create a shoe line that will spark the imagination for your wardrobe.” Indeed, it will create a spark… I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw them on Lady Gaga during the next Grammy awards red carpet. There really wasn’t one favorite piece in my opinion, because EVERY piece was amazing in its own right. Houstina’s favorite is the grey victorian jacket. She told me she already had a pile of orders for it. Prices for the collection range from $250-650. She has a studio in downtown LA and will be opening a flagship boutique with her sister and mother. The grand-opening is set for the art walk in April, so stay tuned! For more information, check out her website and blog.

Amy Marie Goetz "A Kiss of the Orchid" Launch-AGENDA Loft

The trendy venue- AGENDA Loft- in downtown LA once again hosted a delightful new designer by the name of Amy Marie Goetz. She’s new to LA, by way of Cincinnati, and I believe will fit in very well in the fashion scene. Her collection that evening, called “A Kiss of the Orchid”- was inspired by the abstract works of Parisian painter, Michael Stervinou. “I was instantly inspired by Stervinou’s artwork, the way color in itself influences a mood. Each woman should feel energetic and passionate when wearing an AMG creation,” Amy stated. The collection, also inspired by Hollywood Glamor, consisted of evening wear and ready-to-wear in matte/chine high-end fabrics. The designs were beautifully draped. There were pieces that looked simple as the model walked out, but when they turned, there were fun surprises (or details) in the back. Her ready-to-wear collection was designed to layer, with every piece that can also be taken from the office to a night out on the town. Along with Amy’s collection, milliner Izziana created couture headpieces for some of the models to wear.

The evening ended with AGENDA Loft co-founder, Kaylene Peoples (dressed in AMG) singing, “Amy Marie,” in French. The song was written by Kaylene and was inspired by Amy and based on her life.

Amy Marie Goetz is currently accepting custom-made orders online on her fan page.

Kevan Hall Spring 2011 Collection Showcase

I attended a live photo shoot and preview of Kevan Hall’s Spring 2011 collection at the new Agenda Loft in Downtown LA. Agenda was founded by Kaylene Peoples and Arun Nevader, who wanted fellow artists to have an affordable and intimate space to showcase their work or hold an event. Renowned LA designer (known for getting Celine Dion, Sharon Stone, Charlize Theron and Salma Hayek red carpet ready in his gowns) Kevan Hall decided to take them up on that and had a live photo shoot in the intimate setting, while only inviting a precious few in the industry to partake of his latest collection, inspired by the red carpet sirens of the ’30s. Guests enjoyed small bites and champagne, while mingling in between “scenes.” It was an adrenaline rush when the models came out… [There were only three models and ten looks were highlighted] as the photographers scurried about, trying to capture that one shot, as a model twirled around or sensually gazed out at the audience. I found the gowns simple but extremely elegant. A one-shoulder pink draped gown, a strapless terra-cotta A-line with a pleated bodice and the strapless beaded sweetheart bodice in turquoise were among my favorite pieces. They chose the best models for the performance:Algo Brehane, Alli Cripe and Brynn Jones; each girl equally stunning and gave each gown a life of its own. As the evening drew to a close, the head photographer invited the models, Kevan, the make-up and hair team, a waiter and people with cameras (myself included) to be in several fun group shots.
