Flea Style HOUSTON- May 7th

Flea Style (formerly The Dallas Flea) is taking its popular one-day market on the road this spring and setting up shop at Houston’s Silver Street Studios on May 7th. The event plans to have two shows a year in Houston (the second is slated for November 19th). Flea Style selected Houston as its first sister city location for its vibrant art scene and enthusiastic shoppers who have made their passionate demands heard for this curated marketplace hawking handmade, vintage and one-of-a-kind items to come to town. Attendees can expect 100-plus booths manned by artists, collectors, thrifters, junkers, pickers, painters, calligraphers, designers, potters and more. Vendors are traveling from all over Texas, and as far away as Oregon to showcase their wares. The incredibly talented lineup includes Tyler’s AAVintedge (vintage women’s clothing), Dallas’s Cowgirl Cuties (vintage cowboy boots), Portland, Oregon’s Ladies of Paradise (boho jewelry) as well as Houston darlings Manready Mercantile (gorgeous goods for guys and the home), Sunchild (beautiful handmade objects), Lynne Goode Vintage (retro/mid-century furniture) and Bole and Buck (rustic kitchen/home goods).

“We are ecstatic to bring our beloved show to Houston,” says Flea Style founder Brittany Cobb. “We know this hip and sophisticated city will love our unique market, where attendees can not only shop rare goods, but also meet the inspiring makers behind each item.”

Flea Style carefully curates its vendors to highlight unique, handmade, vintage and one-of-a-kind lifestyle wares, including: clothing, jewelry, art, furniture, décor, lighting, dog gear and children’s items. In addition to booths brimming with exceptional finds, shoppers can expect fun activities including The Shutterbus Photo Booth, a DIY floral crown station, live music and giveaways. And because even the most eager of shoppers needs to rest and refuel, there will be food trucks providing sustenance and a bar slinging drinks.

Flea Style takes place Saturday, May 7th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Silver Street Studios, which is located at 2000 Edwards St. The first 100 shoppers will score a free canvas tote goodie bag. Tickets are just $5 cash at the door, or skip the entrance line by purchasing pre-sale tickets HERE. Kids 12 and under get in free.

Last night, I attended the launch party of a new addition to Houston’s art scene in Eado- the Sugar & Cloth Color Wall (and partial sidewalk). The wall is located at Headquarters (opening soon)- at 3302 Canal Street, you CAN’T miss it!

In case you didn’t know- Sugar & Cloth is a highly-regarded DIY/lifestyle blog by Ashley Rose, that is based in Houston, TX. I am really excited that she brought this fab color wall to the city, so that people can capture memories with friends and family. The party last night did just that… I saw families, mothers and daughters, bloggers, artists and photographers- take unique and fun photos, and just enjoying being in the moment. Of course, no party can be without a DJ and the peeps at Deep Eddy Vodka. Treats and bites were on-hand from local food trucks- El Tiempo (yummers veggie torta) and Frosted Betty.

If you do venture over to the wall, be sure to tag your photos: #sugarandclothcolorwall

Cesar Galindo Fall 2016 Live Lookbook Presentation

Cesar Galindo Fall 2016

Cesar Galindo– New York-based designer, by way of Houston- decided to do something different when presenting his Fall 2016 collection to a small group of fashion insiders one sunny day recently. Instead of a typical runway presentation, he decided to do a live lookbook photoshoot for his “Starry Starry Nights!” collection.

He did not show this past season of New York Fashion Week, however he did build a collection; as he is focusing on the business aspect of his company. The collection harkens back to what he started out doing- clothing for the ‘after five’ market. He joked that him being born on New Year’s was the root of his love of that time of day.

The glitzy collection featured laser-cut fringe crepe dresses, repurposed mink jacket, tank and apron halter top, a fuchsia/silver glittered canvas coat and silver sequined caftan-style dress (that I’m still going gaga over), fluid jumpsuits, t-shirt dresses and layering pieces. He incorporated stretch leather arm accessories that were “like spanx for your arms.” He added sporty touches to a couple of the dresses, which included foiled and active mesh sleeve and hem details. He wanted the silhouettes to be relaxed, yet have a “Walk of Shame glam” feel.

I enjoyed seeing this concept in action and in an intimate setting. The models came out one at a time and lined up, while Cesar adjusted and re-styled the garment to his liking. Once on the platform, the the photographer and model seemed to work in tandem, as the shooting and posing went so fast; but also went effortlessly seamless. And of course, the CLOTHES… I could see several of the pieces in my closet.

Huge thanks: BLINC by Bambi Lynn (for the invite and helping to flawlessly put on a great show), Select Studios (venue), Page Parkes (models), Metromorphis Design, Jane Hruska Accessories, Tre Spa Salon, Arched Beauty Architechs and Avalon Diner (yummy treats and lite bites).
