Whenever I venture out into the desert, I feel like I always need to have a desert and/or Southwest-inspired outfit. I recently did the Route 66 Relics Tour again, where the legendary Painted Desert Trading Post was the last stop. I wanted to make a fun t-shirt for the occasion, so I decided to take a photo of the PDTP that I took last year, added “Painted Desert Trading Post or Bust!” and voila! Thanks to Ashley at TNT Shirts, I was able to get one made right before I left for my trip. I paired it with my Route 66-themed tapestry vest. In keeping with my Southwest-y ensemble, I added my colorful shorts and my awesome vintage hat that I bought from the sweet Dawn Bell of Coronation Vintage. It reminds me of the black hat Georgia O’ Keefe wore in many of her photos. She has since become one of my inspirations, especially after visiting the museum in Santa Fe. To top off the outfit, I wore my special vintage Squash Blossom necklace. It had been a “financial goal” of mine to get one when I could afford it. The time came and I bought it from a lovely dealer I had met during the Round Top shows.
During this Route 66 trip (and unlike last year) I finally had decent hiking boots! They kept my feet dry and sturdy (especially when I opted to climb the mesa to get a better shot of the PDTP).
They have these tours in June... So the next one will be next year :)
