Sugar and Spice: Le Premiere
Sugar and spice makes everything nice……
Timmery Turner’s ‘Sugar’ production keeps getting bigger and better! This last show had a first….female and male artists showcasing together. It was held in a large warehouse in a secret location and guests had to be shuttled from parking lot to the venue. This time, the show featured eighteen designers, as well as numerous vendors, a bar, the Urbansalt.com photo booth provided by Katie Hillier and run by fellow blogger-Sasha Jones (www.LAinspiration.com), mixed media artists- curated by my funky fashionista gal pal Rebekka Lien. It was definitely a packed house.
This show included some very talented designers and featured great pieces like the edgy duct tape and paper skirts by accessories designer Kimberly Tabay or the hoodie and gloves with bobcat heads on them and a structured headpiece by Shawn Owen Button of SOB Apparel. Green Reincarnation by Allesa Willis featured fun embellished recycled pieces and after the show, punk hop group, Crazedotcom performed (wearing Green Reincarnation as well). Candy Spooky Clothing was also on my recycled clothing radar. Laura Brown’s designs are colorful and girly. The models in the clothes (to me) were characterized like pin-up meets Tarina Tarantino’s pink hair meets underground starlets like Audrey Kitching. Laura Brown also won the Sugar & Spice designer contest and was the proud recipient of a free website worth $1500 by sponsor ModelsDesired.com. Congrats Laura!! LSD Fashion Lab and 1981 Collection were also very popular brands featured that night. LSD designer, Phuong Tran channeled Lady Gaga by having models wearing over sized round flip-up sunnies, along with the make-up, hair and styling being very Lady Gaga-esque. Timmery Turner’s 1981 Collection created a commotion among the females in the crowd, when two models wearing black boyshorts and neon yellow safety vests came out and started putting small cones along the edges of the runway. The female models strutted out, wearing black bandeaus, boy shorts and had roads painted on their bodies. Each girl was wearing accessories from the line.
Again, another heartfelt congrats to Timmery on the successful production. Stay tuned for Sugar Cubed on the 13th of August!!
