Blue Glue Bikinis “Passport to Bali” Event @ The Domain

Despite the dreary weather, people flocked to The Domain- one of Austin’s premiere shopping malls, for a “Bali-themed” party at one of the mall’s newest boutiques- Blue Glue Bikinis. Blue Glue Bikinis is a French brand with socially responsible and holistic ethics that launched in 2002 and is based in Bali. The non-mass produced swimwear brand offers suits that are like a “second skin” on their wearer. The fabrication of the eco-friendly swimwear consists of {88% recycled bottles}, 88% micro-polyester and 12% spandex. The fabric is buttery soft and is a deterrent for sand. The suits are handmade by the locals at the headquarters in Bali. With over 15 franchises globally, Blue Glue Bikinis Austin is the first franchise to open up in the U.S. Boutique owner- Elizabeth Stevenson recently opened the boutique in December 2012, bringing island style to Austin.

The “Passport to Bali” event showcased the tropical-inspired suits that are offered in three collections: ‘Glam,’ ‘Chill,’ and the ‘Mix n’ Match.’ The ‘Glam’ collection focuses on edgy styles with signature hardware, suits with laser-cut detail (my fave) and embossed fabrics. ‘Chill’ focuses on prints and solid colors at a lower price point. ‘Mix n’ Match’ consists of over twenty different cuts for women to create their own look. The boutique also carries beachy accessories, such as: totes, embellished and laser-cut sandals, statement necklaces (LOVED the laser-cut necklaces!) and other fun jewelry, cover-ups and pareos. Price points for the swimwear range from $40-150 for a set. Again, all items are environmentally sustainable in that they don’t use any animal-based products and the leather looks are created using cotton wax. Models showed off a few looks throughout the night and there tropical drinks and sweet treats from Hill Country Cakery. Henna artist- Niki Pham was on hand to provide Indonesian-inspired Henna tattoos to guests. Stylist Thea Wood provided fashion advice and helped guests put together trendy looks for the upcoming beach/pool weather. Brilliant Imports provided Balinese pillows and other themed decorative items to display at the event. 10% of sales from the evening were donated to “You Are Good Tees”, an organization that helps promote and protect children who have been abused or neglected.

Be sure to stop by Blue Glue Bikinis Austin (located in between Burberry and Tommy Bahama- 11506 Century Oaks Terrace Suite 108 Austin, TX 78758 PH: (512) 833-9113 ) to get a total Summer swimsuit and accessory makeover!

Black Halo Press Preview at Neiman Marcus

Every time I have the opportunity to meet a well-known label’s designer, I immediately jump on the chance. So when I heard that the designer from Black Halo was going to be holding a press preview here in town, I was ecstatic. It’s like being starstruck, but on the fashion industry level. Let’s just say it was such an honor to meet and chat with Laurel Berman- designer of Los Angeles brand Black Halo. For the event, I wore a demure floral 70s dress and a loose side ponytail. When I met Laurel, I noticed (as did she) that we were both sporting side ponytails (or in her case, a side bun). Such a refreshing coincidence…great minds DO think alike!

In case some of you are unfamiliar with Black Halo, let me give you a brief introduction. It was launched in 2002 and only had a few employees. The company has obviously since grown and keeps all its manufacturing in Los Angeles. It was Laurel’s husband that branded the label- ‘Black Halo’, which is in reference to a “naughty angel.” She’s got the halo, but it’s a tad tarnished. Laurel likes to consider herself a rule-breaker, thus reflecting that ‘rule’ into the brand, along with being polished, defined and sexy (but not overbearing). Think along the lines of pencil skirt and body con silhouettes…with attitude. Her designs are made so that the women wearing the garments feel beautiful, confident and ready to take on the world. The Black Halo customer is the career woman, which is why most of the dresses are designed to be taken from the boardroom to dinner. The ‘Jackie-O‘ dress for example, one of their best-sellers, is the womens version of the power suit. I can see why every time I see that dress in person or in photos. It’s architectural silhouette hugs all the right assets (which is one of the things Laurel strives for) and I love how you don’t have to really accessorize it…it’s just a statement in itself. We previewed a small presentation of current and up to Spring 2013 dresses, including the debut of Black Halo EVE, which was launched exclusively with Neiman Marcus for one season. I am just as in love with the new evening collection as I am with the day-to-dinner dresses. Simple, sleek, with their signature architectural draping. They have incorporated an invisible zipper in the slits of some of the evening wear designs. The zipper is made so that the wearer can show as much or as little leg as she wants. I love how Laurel is so innovative and thinks ahead when it comes to the little details that might make life easier for whoever buys the dress. I could go to that charity function with no or tiny slit and before I hit the after party, I would hike up the slit so I could have an “Angelina Jolie”moment. Black Halo is such a huge hit with celebrities. Laurel had mentioned that they had recently dressed Louise Roe in a custom gown for when she was commentating on the red carpet during the Oscars. She later made twenty ‘best-dressed lists’ for wearing that gown. That really speaks a lot for the brand, as the ‘best-dressed’ lists are usually only reserved for celebrities. All dresses stay below $700 and are always on-trend, yet timeless. Check out blackhalo.com for additional information.

Huge thanks to Mistelle and Jennifer at Neiman Marcus-The Domain, the models and Laurel- LAFashionsnob is a HUGE fan!

Fall 2012 Trend Preview at Neiman Marcus- Austin

I was beyond thrilled when the folks at Neiman Marcus contacted me to attend the Fall 2012 trend preview at their store in The Domain in Austin. This was my first “official” fashion event in my new city, which I was excited to be apart of. The event was held in the morning and was rather intimate…only a select few press members were there. They presented ten looks to us, while introducing the latest Fall 2012 trends: “Mixed Greens,” “The Jacket,” “The Smoking Slipper,” “The Leather Leg,” “Navy: The New Neutral,” “The Statement Handbag,” “Borrowed from the Boys,” “Digital Prints,” “Brooches,” and lastly “The Fall Face” (make up). The stylists specially handpicked numerous designers such as: Rachel Zoe, Jill Stuart, Prada, Cavalli, Helmut Lang, Theory, etc. and did a wonderful job putting together each look. I think Carrie Bradshaw would’ve had a field day with the digitally printed dresses and pants, feather collar, Prada tote, Rachel Zoe’s new vintage-inspired jewelry collection (LOVE Rach!) and lastly- the stunning green Jill Sander gown with a dainty bow decorating the empire waist and then crossed straps in back. Now, I’m not one that really follows the trends, but I I feel that I could pull off “The Jacket,” “The Statement Bag,” “Brooches,” and possibly the “Smoking Slipper.” What about you, dear readers? What are your favorite trends this season?
