There is an art installation just west of Marathon, TX on U.S. 90 that bears the famous bullseye logo and name. Don’t expect any merchandise here though, as it’s just one of those old abandoned cinder block buildings next to the railroad. It’s a quirky place to stop for some photos while traversing through the Big Bend area.

Finding Balance and Color in the Mojave Desert

It was freezing and incredibly windy when Taylor and I shot at Ugo Rondinone’s Seven Magic Mountains– a colorful art installation in the middle of the Mojave Desert, near Las Vegas, that features several columns of balanced rocks. I must give the wind credit though, as it did justice for my vintage marshmallow blouse and its’ billowy sleeves. I tied my black and white marbled clay tube necklace by Phoenix-based Sonia Gracia Handmade closer to my neck, so it can show-off next to the incredibly chic wingtip collar of the blouse. Overall, I wanted my black and white outfit to nicely contrast with the art installation, instead of wearing clashy colors. It was a fun day, especially when you have an excuse to go play in the desert.

Pride is a Beautiful Thing

I wish to thank Omar Lisandro for posting about this magnificent wall on his Instagram, because I never would’ve known about it. Not only is it happy and colorful, but it also has a deeper meaning to many. This past weekend was the annual Pride parade and festivities in Houston. ‘Pride’ is the term used in the LGBT community that is a positive stance against discrimination and violence towards their community and helps to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance (info via Wikipedia).

For this particular post, I wanted the wall to be the statement, so I chose to do an all-white ensemble. I had found a really cool vintage jumpsuit with small ribbon bows at a recent estate sale, and paired it with vintage white Ferragamo heels and vintage sunglasses with white frames. I then took a couple bits of thrifted white lace to add more texture to the jumpsuit as a belt, while the other lace piece doubled as a headscarf. For this occasion, less truly is more.
